Lingig mayor, 2 soldiers still under NPA captivity

- Ben Serrano -

SURIGAO CITY ,Philippines  – Mayor Henry Dano of Lingig town in Surigao del Sur and his two security escorts, who were supposed to be released over the weekend by New People’s Army (NPA) rebels who kidnapped them, are still in the hands of their captors.

“Reliable sources from New People’s Army told us to wait because he will be released yesterday Sunday but it never materialized… This Monday morning no release has been made,” Amela Ventura Dano, the mayor’s wife told The STAR in a mobile phone interview yesterday.

Dano thus reiterated her appeal for the NPA rebels to release her husband and his two security escorts.

Lingig police chief Inspector Ignacio Serrano, Jr. said NPA rebels who have been contacting them have also not mentioned anything about the whereabouts or the condition of the kidnap victims.
