MANILA, Philippines - The Sheriffs Confederation of the Philippines (SCOPHIL) yesterday asked the Supreme Court to disbar Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, who is now being investigated for punching a court sheriff.
Members of the group also trooped to the Office of the Ombudsman in Quezon City to file a motion calling for the issuance of a preventive suspension order on Duterte.
The sheriffs held a motorcade rally to condemn the acts not only by the mayor but also by her father and brother.
Duterte is facing direct assault charges for punching Davao City sheriff Abe Andres during a demolition of informal settlers in Barangay Soliman in Davao City last month.
SCOPHIL president Patermoceo Labayani said they want Duterte removed from the roll of attorneys for her act that demonstrated “arrogance, criminal and contemptuous act of an officer of the court like her.” They said Duterte also violated her oath as lawyer when she stopped Andres from implementing an order of Davao City Regional Trial Court Judge Emmanuel Carpio.
