Woman hurt in bus heist
CALAMBA CITY, Laguna, Philippines - – A 23-year-old woman was seriously wounded during a holdup on a passenger bus in Los Baños, Laguna yesterday morning.
Senior Superintendent Gilbert Cruz, Laguna provincial director, said a stray bullet hit Jenny Ortiz, 26, who was rushed to the nearest hospital.
Cruz said two suspects were arrested: Dario Hallera, 29, who was collared on the bus, and Dennis Hapeta, 38, who was cornered after a hot pursuit.
He said the six robbers announced the holdup onboard the Cubao-bound HM Transport along the highway in Barangay Lalakay, Los Baños.
Two of the 35 bus passengers happened to be lawmen – PO1s Roberto Ocansan and PO1 Jeffery Baccay – who asked the robbers to surrender. But one of the robbers opened fire, hitting Ortiz.
