13,000 Vizcaya indigents get PhilHealth cards

- Charlie Lagasca -

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines – Some 13,000 indigents from all over the province have been enrolled with the Philippine Health Insurance Corp.(PhilHealth)since April as part of the Aquino government’s goal to expand the coverage of its health insurance program.

Lani Castillo, PhilHealth area manager said they have been distributing PhilHealth cards to indigents in different parts of the province in partnership with the provincial government led by Governor Luisa Cuaresma.

“Through this program, we are enabling those who have less in life and especially those who tend to be along the fringes of society to avail of PhilHealth membership through subsidized payments by the government,” Vice Governor Jose Gambito said.

PhilHealth officials, along with representatives of the Department of Social Welfare and Development(DSWD), Department of Health (DOH) and local officials led the distribution of health cards to indigents.
