NBI arrests rape suspect after 13 years

MANILA, Philippines - A bus inspector, who raped his own daughter and has been a fugitive for about 13 years was arrested by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Lucena, Quezon.

NBI Director Magtanggol Gatdula identified the suspect as Benito Sarmiento, 59, and resident of Barangay Ibabang Iyam, Lucena City.

Investigations showed that Sarmiento raped his daughter in 1998 when the victim was only 16 years old at their residence in Lucena City.

The suspect went into hiding for 13 years and changed residences in Iloilo City, Puerto Princesa City, and Polomolok, South Cotabato to elude arrest.
