Sultan Kudarat State University qualifies for national SIFE 2011

-

Manila, Philippines - The Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) in southern Mindanao has once again qualified for the national competition of the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) Philippines set in July.

With its competition entry “Access Campus Team,” SKSU qualified based on its projects aimed at empowering stakeholders in applying business and economic concepts and an entrepreneurial approach to improve quality of life and standard of living.

This gives SKSU a shot at representing the country in the SIFE World Cup 2011 to be held in Los Angeles, California.

The SKSU was also the SIFE national champion in 2004 and 2005, and a runner-up in the 2007, 2008 and 2009 national championships.

With its campus situated in Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat, the SKSU has been actively participating in the SIFE nationals and was in fact the Philippine representative to the 2005 SIFE World Cup held in Germany.

The SIFE is a global network of students from over 1,400 colleges and universities in 44 countries. Founded in 1975, it has grown to become one of the largest university-based organizations in the world today. SIFE teams are active in more than 40 countries.

The SKSU is among a few Mindanao-based universities active in SIFE Philippines with members coming mostly from Luzon-based universities.

Last February, Sagittarius Mines Inc. (SMI) and SIFE Philippines organized an orientation attended by 67 students and faculty from 18 colleges and universities in South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and Davao del Sur.

SMI, the government contractor for the proposed Tampakan copper-gold project in South Cotabato, sees SIFE’s mission in parallel with its sustainable development principles.
