BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya ,Philippines – Anti-narcotics agents arrested a son of a mayor of a Cagayan town in a buy-bust operation in Tuguegarao City Friday night.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the region identified the suspect as Jongi Pentecostes, a barangay councilman and a son of Gonzaga town Mayor Carlito Pentecostes.
Ernesto Lacerna, PDEA Cagayan Valley information officer said PDEA agents seized from Pentecostes 27 grams of shabu worth P150,000 and two firearms.
“Pentecostes was arrested with another person who was also in our drug watch list,” said Lacerna, but did not identify the suspect.
Lacerna said Pentecostes had gone into voluntary rehabilitation through the mediation of his father to evade arrest last year.
“We thought that he had been cured when he was released from rehabilitation in August last year. He even ran and won for barangay official of Paradise, Gonzaga. And then this happened,” Lacerna lamented.
Mayor Pentecostes meanwhile said he would let the law takes its course on his son.
“If my son is guilty, he should pay for it. I would have made him undergo drug rehab again but he’s old enough to know what he is doing…. I don’t even know what my children are doing anymore with their lives,” the mayor said.
