MANILA, Philippines - The Department of National Defense (DND) ended yesterday the acceptance of amnesty applications from individuals tagged in uprisings against the Arroyo administration.
A total of 280 individuals personally submitted their applications to the DND’s ad hoc amnesty committee, which started accepting forms last Jan. 3.
DND spokesman Eduardo Batac said they are satisfied with the turnout since about 90 percent of the expected applicants availed themselves of the amnesty.
“That is a very good proportion of people who availed themselves of the amnesty plus the fact that the number of applicants does not count those overseas who can also apply through a certain process,” Batac said.
Of the 280 applicants who personally submitted their applications to the DND, 83 are officers, 188 are enlisted personnel, two are policemen, and seven are civilians.
A total of 238 applicants have been granted amnesty as of last week.
