Flash floods submerge Jolo
ZAMBOANGA CITY ,Philippines – Flash floods submerged the province of Jolo, Sulu while the capital town was still reeling from the devastation last month that left five people dead and displaced thousands, according to a local official.
Mayor Hussin Amin said his town was inundated again last Saturday when incessant rain hit the province from midday until late in the evening affecting six villages, mostly in the downtown areas.
Amin said the floodwaters subsided Sunday after it forced more than 30,000 residents to evacuate to higher grounds.
He said they have yet to assess the extent of the damage brought by the latest calamity that hit his town.
“It was sad that while we are trying to recuperate from the previous devastation we were hit by flood anew,” Amin said.
