DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Communist rebels killed a police officer and wounded four others, including a police chief, in a raid in Davao del Norte, authorities said.
A group of New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas swooped down on the police station in Panabo City late Saturday, triggering a 30-minute gunbattle, regional police spokesman Superintendent Querubin Manalang said.
Manalang said two officers, including a senior inspector, were killed, while a militiaman deputized by the police was wounded.
