3 volcanic quakes recorded in Bulusan

- Celso Amo, Helen Flores -

MANILA, Philippines -  Three volcanic quakes and nine rockfall events were recorded at Mt. Bulusan in Sorsogon during the past 24 hours, but the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the volcano’s alert level 1 remains.

In an advisory, Phivolcs also noted yesterday a confined muddy stream along the Monbon Creek in Barangay San Benon, Irosin town.

“Bulusan Volcano’s status remains at alert level 1. This means that the source of activity is hydrothermal and shallow,” Phivolcs said.

It again warned residents not to enter the four-kilometer radius permanent danger zone due to sudden steam and ash explosions.

Weather and disaster officials also cautioned villagers on possible lahar due to a low pressure area 245 kilometers southeast of Puerto Princesa City.
