Cagayan gun ban may stay

- Charlie Lagasca -

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines  – Last Sunday’s ambush in Cagayan’s Rizal town that claimed the lives of the police chief and four of his men has prompted authorities to reconsider the lifting of the firearms ban in the province.

Chief Superintendent Francisco Villaroman, Cagayan Valley police director, said their proposal to lift the gun ban has been forwarded to Camp Crame, but its implications are now being studied in the wake of the New People’s Army ambush.

The gun ban was imposed after the failed slay try on Tuguegarao City Mayor Delfin Ting last November and a spate of killings.
