TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines – A first-term village chief in Gandara, Samar, was gunned down the other day, authorities said.
Superintendent Tomasito Clet, Samar police director, said Barangay Peñaplata chairman Nestor Robion, 35, was shot with an M-14 rifle by a certain Joselito Aragon.
Clet said the motive behind the killing was still being investigated.
He said they were checking if the suspect belongs to any private army operating in the first congressional district of Samar.
Gandara was among of the 23 towns in Samar tagged as hot spots during the recent elections.
