MANILA, Philippines - A strong earthquake of magnitude 5.8 rocked some parts of the Visayas and Mindanao yesterday but state seismologists said no damage is expected.
The quake struck at 2:47 p.m. and its epicenter was traced 86 kilometers northeast of Mati, Davao, Oriental.
The tremor was felt at Intensity 5 in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur; Intensity 4 in Mati; Davao City; Kateel, Davao Oriental; San Francisco, Agusan del Norte; and Placer, Surigao del Norte; and Intensity 3 in the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Butuan and Malita and Malalag in Davao del Sur.
It was also felt at Intensity 2 in General Santos City and Intensity 1 in Hibok-Hibok, Camiguin and Cebu City.
