Central Luzon farmers get insurance benefits

- Ding Cervantes -

SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Philippines  – At least 1,103 farmers from the provinces of Pampanga, Bulacan and Tarlac whose crops were destroyed by typhoon “Juan” last Oct. 18 were able to collect crop insurance totaling P9.59 million from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corp. (PCIC).

PCIC president Jovy Bernabe said farmers in Bulacan received P3.826 million, and those in Pampanga and Tarlac got P1.181 million and P4.544 million, respectively.

“This is the benefit derived from having their crops insured,” Bernabe said.

The farmers got their insurance checks in simple rites at the PCIC regional office here from Bernabe and PCIC acting senior vice president Norman Cajucom.

“I am thankful that the farmers availed themselves of our services and I assure them we will continue to extend the best service to them,” he said.

Bernabe said the PCIC insures not only crops but also livestock and agricultural assets.

“Our farmers should now realize the importance of insurance. Without insurance, farmers have lesser hope in recovering their losses when natural calamities strike. Nowadays, more farmers file their claims due to climate change,” PCIC regional manager Romeo Gonzales.
