Slay ends term of new Ilocos village chief

-

CAMP FLORENDO, La Union, Philippines – The term of office of a newly elected village chief in San Juan, Ilocos Sur came to a violent stop as he was gunned down by motorcycle-riding men yesterday morning, police said.

Senior Superintendent Angel Dopale, Ilocos Sur police director, said Barangay Resureccion chairman Denmark Bueno, 38, was coming out of the gates of St. William Institute in Magsingal town where he had brought her children when the armed men approached his van and shot him several times.

Dopale said a school guard, who witnessed the crime, described the triggerman as chubby, with long hair, and wearing black jacket and denim pants.

Bueno, a businessman, was rushed to the Magsingal District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Police found seven caliber .45 shells at the crime scene. The motive behind the killing is still being determined. – Jun Elias, Cecille Suerte Felipe
