6 killed in rash of slays in GenSan
GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines – Six people were killed in a rash of shooting incidents here in the past days, police said.
The victims included a second-year college student who was gunned down Saturday, police said.
The spate of gunslayings on Friday was unprecedented, the 26th since Senior Superintendent Cedrick Train took over as acting city police chief last July.
Most of the killings were perpetrated by gunmen riding in tandem on motorcycles, who are suspected to be hired killers.
Mayor Darlene Antonino has issued an executive order declaring the city a no-firearms zone.
She also ordered the police to conduct regular checkpoints at major entry and exit points to deter would-be assassins, but apparently to no avail as shown by the recent killings.
