Davao barangay council bet killed, too
DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Two men shot dead a candidate for barangay councilman in Barangay Indangan, Buhangin district this city last Monday night, authorities said.
The victim, a certain Ariel Tolibas, 41, a resident of Kilometro 12, Blissful Family Village in Barangay Indangan, had just come from a campaign sortie and was sitting in front of a store when he was attacked.
The gunmen escaped on board a DT 125 Yamaha motorcycle toward Buhangin proper.
Senior Inspector Felino Brunia, a scene of the crime operative, said they found four empty caliber .45 shells at the crime scene.
Police could not yet ascertain if the killing was politically motivated, as there were many candidates vying for the position of barangay kagawad and that there was no intense rivalry between Tolibas and his opponents.
