MANILA, Philippines - The Vatican has appointed Palo, Leyte Archbishop Jose Palma as the new archbishop of Cebu replacing Cardinal Ricardo Vidal.
Archbishop Edward Joseph Adams, apostolic nuncio to the Philippines, relayed the news to Msgr. Pedro Quitorio III, media director of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, in a letter dated Oct. 14.
Palma, 60, a known human rights advocate, is presently the CBCP vice president.
Vidal, 79, submitted his retirement papers to Pope Benedict XVI in February 2006, when he turned 75.
