TAYABAS, Quezon, Philippines – A province-wide tree planting activity was launched recently by the provincial government of Quezon by planting one million trees as a flagship project of Governor David “Jayjay” Suarez for securing the earth’s future.
The office of the Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources (PG-ENRO), together with representatives from some local agencies, environmental activist groups, and tribal groups were united in this advocacy through a workshop planning confab conducted in this town.
This project was part of the “Plant and Grow One Million Trees Securing Quezon’s Future” initiated by Suarez in order to avoid the same tragedy that happened in Real, Infanta and General Nakar on November 2004 which killed hundreds of people and destroyed properties, according to Suarez.
Suarez said that a rapid site assessment period is the initial phase of the program to ensure that some plants species will continually nurture the environment in topographic places.
These also include preparations to mitigate the problem on climate change and global warming that has already affected the ozone layers.
On Nov. 3, simultaneous with the celebration of Hermano Pule Day, a province-wide planting of different hybrid of trees will be undertaken in each of 40 towns and cities of Quezon. A Donor’s Forum will also be conducted to sustain the requirements of one million trees, through sponsorships by donating miniature trees made of ash fly. This was created by inmates inside the Quezon Provincial Jail.
