Ecija vice mayor gunned down
CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines – The vice mayor of Licab town in Nueva Ecija was gunned down by two men riding tandem on an unlicensed motorcycle before dawn yesterday, police said.
Chief Superintendent Alan Purisima, Central Luzon police director, said Vice Mayor Luisito Caraang had just finished jogging and was on his way home when he was attacked at around 5:10 a.m. in Purok 3, Barangay San Casimiro in Licab town.
Caraang was rushed to the Premier Cabanatuan City Hospital but died more than an hour later.
The vice mayor sustained multiple gunshot wounds, said Senior Superintendent Roberto Aliggayu, officer-in-charge of the Nueva Ecija police.
Aliggayu said he has formed a crack team to track down the gunmen who are believed to be still hiding in the province.
He said his investigators were checking if the killing had something to do with the upcoming barangay elections.
As of yesterday noon, it was not yet known what kind of gun was used in the killing.
