28 hurt as bus turns turtle in North Cotabato
COTABATO CITY , Philippines – Twenty-eight passengers were injured, five of them seriously, when a speeding bus turned turtle in Datu Montawal, Maguindanao yesterday, two days after 23 people were hurt in another vehicular accident in nearby President Roxas, North Cotabato.
Inspector Romnick Linsangan, police chief of Montawal town, said the People’s Transport bus skidded on the rain-soaked highway and eventually turned turtle.
The bus company serves the 284-kilometer Cotabato-Davao route.
Bus driver Adam Abuan, 50, said he lost control of the vehicle.
Abuan, who suffered contusions on different parts of the body, gave himself up to responding policemen.
Linsangan said the bus, which was bound for Cotabato City, was not even full of passengers.
He said the 27 injured passengers were rushed to different hospitals.
The road accident was the second in Central Mindanao in just two days. More than 20 passengers were earlier hurt when the mini-bus they were riding fell off a 30-foot cliff along a highway in President Roxas, a hinterland North Cotabato town not far from Datu Montawal.
