AboitizPower adopts 'Pangarap'

-

MANILA, Philippines - AboitizPower Corp. recently adopted a female Philippine Eagle named “Pangarap” as a symbol of its commitment to nurture the environment and conserve Earth’s diminishing resources.

AboitizPower president and CEO Erramon Aboitiz and Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) executive director Dennis Salvador signed the memorandum of agreement wherein AboitizPower has committed to support the PEF’s wildlife conservation initiatives by adopting Pangarap for one year.

Under the agreement, AboitizPower will grant a cash donation of P125,000 for the food and veterinary care of Pangarap.

The agreement signing took place in Davao City and was also attended by Aboitiz Equity Ventures Inc. FVP and chief reputation officer Sebastian Lacson and PEF communications officer Tatit Quiblat.

The Philippine Eagle is one of the most endangered eagles in the world and its existence is being threatened by “hunting and unabated forestation.”

According to the PEF brief, “The forest provides the habitat for its survival – the means to reproduce and nourish their offspring. Because it occupies the highest position in the food chain of the forest ecosystem, the Philippine Eagle is an effective monitor of environmental health.”

“Its conservation can create an umbrella of protection for diverse life forms. Conservation of the eagle and its habitat in turn sustains the human race in the long term. Protecting the forests of the Philippines can help ensure a future for today’s children,” the PEF added.

With AboitizPower’s adoption of Pangarap, the company hopes that it will give birth to offsprings and help save the country’s national bird from extinction.

Nurturing the environment and conserving the Earth’s diminishing resources is part of AboitizPower’s vision to promote a “Cleanergy” lifestyle.

Just recently, President Aquino led the inauguration of one of AboitizPower’s biggest investments in Cleanergy, the Sibulan hydropower plant, which added 42.5 megawatts of cleaner and renewable energy to the Mindanao grid.

Through Cleanergy, AboitizPower envisions a future wherein business and people power their activities with cleaner and renewable power; where companies that have chosen Cleanergy to receive recognition for making a responsible choice; and where customers can be part of a community of like-minded people who champion sustainable energy use from businesses to households.

It is also a future that sees Cleanergy contributing to sustainability projects that promote the development of new sources of clean and renewable power and participate in more activities that encourage the use of efficient energy.

AboitizPower is the holding company for the Aboitiz Group’s investments in power generation, distribution, retail and power services.

It is a major producer of renewable energy in the country with several hydroelectric and geothermal assets in its generation portfolio.

The non-renewable portfolio consists of plants throughout the country. The distribution utilities it owns and operates are located in Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao.
