Left by wife, man holds 3 kids hostage

MANILA, Philippines - A security guard held his three children hostage for more than five hours in their house in Albay last Wednesday after his wife abandoned them two weeks ago.

The suspect, Glenn Obias, armed with a bolo, prevented his children aged 14, nine and seven from going out of their house in Purok Cadlom, Barangay Pasud, Polangui town.

The hostage taker eventually surrendered but his wife Mildred, 34, told police that she would pursue charges against Obias for putting their children in danger.

Obias said he got depressed when his wife left them, but the latter said she made the move as he could not provide for them.
