MANILA, Philippines - A councilor in Abra was killed in an ambush in Bangued, the capital town, yesterday morning, authorities said.
Police said the victim, Arnulfo Callos, 49, a councilor of San Isidro town, was cruising Taft Street in Zone 2, Bangued town on board a motorcycle when he was shot at around 10:45 a.m. yesterday.
Callos died from bullet wounds in the nape and head while being rushed to the hospital.
Chief Superintendent Villamor Bumanlag, Cordillera police director, said a special task group headed by Senior Superintendent Amando Lagiwid, Abra police director, would investigate the attack.
Witnesses said Callos was maneuvering at a parking area near a barbershop where he would have a haircut when he was gunned down. Police said he had just taken his wife and son to a bank.
