Globe Telecom helps beef up soldiers' ICT capabilities
MANILA, Philippines – Globe Telecom has extended scholarship grants to the top awardees of the Communications, Electronics and Information Systems Services of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (CEISS-AFP).
Army Capt. Odilon Barrientos received a four-year educational grant worth P60,000, while T/Sgt. Victor Sosa and Navy S1YN Mary Ann Rosete each received four-year educational grants worth P40,000.
The education grants will help support their completion of any four-year information and communications technology course to further develop the soldiers’ role as ICT professionals in the AFP.
“Usually, the awardees use the grant for their dependents’ education, but the CEISS-AFP tuition grant is unique in the sense that they themselves will be using this for their own studies,” said Globe corporate social responsibility head Jeffrey Tarayao.
“These awardees have shown a willingness and capacity to learn aside from their current service performance. As the leader in ICT for education, Globe wants to encourage these soldiers to improve their ICT skills so that they can in turn enhance the capabilities of our men in uniform,” Tarayao said.
The CEISS-AFP has been a strong partner of Globe for the last 16 years. Most of the company’s core transmission backbone sites are co-located within the CEISS-AFP’s mountainous sites and camps.
The CEISS-AFP also provides security and first-line assistance during equipment troubles.
The four-year educational scholarship program for the national service awardees is part of Globe Bridging Communities (Globe BridgeCom), the company’s social responsibility arm.
