Palawan mayor held for Cebu rape case
MANILA, Philippines – A Palawan town mayor was arrested in Puerto Princesa City Monday morning for allegedly raping a manicurist in Cebu City last July, police said.
Superintendent Rolando Amurao, Puerto Princesa police chief, said Rizal town Mayor Nicolas Montaño Sr., 64, was held by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by Judge Gilbert Moises of Cebu City Regional Trial Court Branch 18.
Montaño was attending a conference in a hotel when he was accosted by joint elements of the Puerto Princesa and Palawan police and the Police Security Protection Group of Cebu.
Montaño was then brought to the Ospital ng Palawan for medical checkup before he was transported to the airport for the trip to Cebu City.
However, Montaño’s blood pressure shot up, prompting his arresting officers to bring him back to the hospital. As of press time, the mayor was still at the Ospital ng Palawan.
