DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Davao City first district councilor Wendel Avisado officially resigned from his post Tuesday and accepted an offer for him to become the deputy secretary-general of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC).
“I know I have given up a local post after running in the May elections but it is for a greater calling. I could still serve the Dabawenyos even in a national capacity,” Avisado told The STAR.
Avisado said President Aquino offered him the post upon the recommendation of Vice President Jejomar Binay who personally asked him to join him in the HUDCC.
Avisado said he took his oath of office as HUDCC executive before the President at Malacañang last Monday afternoon.
He said he is leaving it up to his local party, Hugpong sa Katawhan sa Davao, to nominate his replacement as city councilor.
Avisado said he consulted his family and partymates on the offer for him to join the HUDCC.
“It took me a long time to decide but eventually I had to accept the offer,” he said.
