CANDELARIA, Quezon, Philippines – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) took time out from pursuing the Communist rebels and organized a health mission which benefited hundreds of residents in Mauban town in this province.
Maneuvering units of the Philippine Army, the 3rd Special Forces Company, and elements of the Southern Luzon Command under Lt. Col. Benjamin Batara Jr. and Capt. Francis Espiritu conducted a medical and dental mission to an estimated 400 Mauban residents.
The Army’s Medical and Dental Civic Action Programs and Community Relations program sponsored by Quezon Power Philippines Ltd. (PPL) opened up with a simple ceremony headed by Mauban Mayor Fernando Llamas.
Mauban is a high-priority area for civil military operations and rural development projects of the AFP.
Other humanitarian assistance activities conducted at the Concepcion Elementary School include distribution of books and toys, film showing, and parlor games hosted by Rotaract South Lucena.
Lt. Gen. Roland Detabali, Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM) chief lauded the success of the event and praised his men for their continuous support.
