Ex-village chief gunned down

TIAONG, Quezon, Philippines – A 64-year-old former barangay chairman was shot dead by still unidentified assailants at Barangay San Agustin, here on Tuesday.

Police identified the slain victim as Wilfredo Bonifacio Lajara, who had served as chairman of said village for many years.

Prober Francisco Almazan said the incident happened at around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, Lajara was driving his motorcycle (WQ-6808) on his way to San Antonio town.

Almazan said, two pistol-wielding men blocked the victim’s path and shot him several times hitting him in different parts of the body.

Lajara was rushed by residents to the Liwag Clinic but died after a few minutes due to fatal gunshot wounds.

Responding team recovered spent shells for .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.

Further, two store owners were also shot by unidentified men at Barangay Lagalag, here, on the same day.

Nory Atienza, 48, died on the spot while her cousin Genoveva Gonzales, 75, sustained gunshot wound in the leg, said officer on case PO2 Roderick Lagrazon.

He said Atienza and Gonzales were manning their store at said place when the suspects who were both clad in maong pants and black jacket arrived and pretended to be customers, around 6 p.m.

Without saying a word, the duo shot both women several times killing Atienza on the spot.

The suspects escaped using a motorcycle with no license plate, while Gonzales was brought to Peter Paul Hospital in Candelaria town.
