Bombing attempt foiled in Basilan

ZAMBOANGA CITY , Philippines  – Alert government forces thwarted a bombing attempt by the Abu Sayyaf yesterday when it discovered an improvised explosive planted near a school and church in Lamitan City, Basilan, a security official said.

Nick Castro, security head of Lamitan City Mayor Roderick Furigay, said police and the Marines’ K9 unit discovered the improvised explosive below a culvert in front of the Infancia Church and Lamitan Central School.
