Rescued Chinese trader missed noodles during captivity

ZAMBOANGA CITY , Philippines  – “I missed noodles.”

Thus said rescued Chinese national Wu Yun Xing, alias Peter Go, who was held captive for one and a half years by the Abu Sayyaf in the mountains of Sulu.

Wu was flown to this city from Jolo, Sulu late Tuesday via a Navy Islander aircraft and was presented briefly to the media at the headquarters of the Directorate for Integrated Police Operation for Western Mindanao.

Through an interpreter, Wu said he was treated well by his abductors whom he described as Abu Sayyaf members under slain leader Albader Parad in a hut in the mountains.

Wu said he was rarely brought out of his cottage since he was snatched from his stall in downtown Jolo on Dec. 13, 2008. 

“They did not harm me. They fed me with rice and fish,” Wu recounted. “But I missed noodles which I asked after I was rescued.” 

According to Wu, he communicated with his captors through sign language. 

Wu’s friend, a Filipino-Chinese based in Sulu, said the Abu Sayyaf did not allow Wu to contact them.

It was not clear to Wu and his Filipino-Chinese friends if ransom was demanded in exchange for his release.

Wu was flown to Manila yesterday and turned over to Chinese embassy officials.

Police rescued Wu after an encounter with his kidnappers in a remote village in Luuk, Sulu Monday night.     – With Rudy Santos
