MANILA, Philippines - A bodyguard of Rizal Gov. Casimiro Ynares III was shot dead while two others, including a five-year-old boy, were wounded in an ambush staged by two motorcycle-riding men in Antipolo City Saturday night.
Police are eyeing land grabbing as the motive behind the slaying of Johnny Saut, 28, of Vista Grande Subdivision in Barangay Sta. Cruz.
Saut, a member of the Rizal Provincial Security Department sustained multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of the body and died on the spot.
Senior Superintendent Jonathan Miano, Rizal police provincial director identified those hit by stray bullets as Delo Cahilig and five-year-old Jomar Garcia, both residents of Sitio Boso-Boso in Barangay San Jose.
Miano said Saut was on board his Honda Wave motorcycle when the suspects, riding in tandem in a motorbike, blocked his path in Sitio Boso-Boso at about 6 p.m. Saturday.
One of the suspects pulled out a handgun and opened fire at Saut, police said.
The two other victims were in the area when the suspects staged the ambush.
