BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – Kumander Parad, a known former local communist rebel leader (not the infamous ASG commander Al Bader Parad in Indanan, Sulu) operating in the hinterland areas of Agusan del Sur was arrested by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in a remote village of Marfil, a former communist rebel bailiwick, in Rosario town, Agusan del Sur province.
The once elusive former NPA kumander was arrested by CIDG operatives past 6 a.m. Tuesday, CIDG report said yesterday.
Unlike his namesake Abu Sayaff Group commander Al Bader Parad who was killed in a fierce military-ASG encounter in Indanan, Sulu sometime in February, the local NPA kumander was arrested while standing at a waiting shed waiting for a ride in Purok 1, Barangay Marfil.
Parad whose real name is Alejandre Sabas was arrested by CIDG men by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur regional trial court Judge Hector Salise in cooperation with barangay officials of Barangay Marfil headed by former soldier now Marfil Barangay Captain Emilio Solidor Jr.
Sabas a.k.a Kumander Parad was facing illegal possession of firearms and ammunition charges and other criminal raps before Bayugan City RTC, CIDG-Caraga officer-in-charge regional head Police Superintendent Warren De Leon, said.
CIDG-Caraga official report alleged a fully loaded .45 caliber pistol and several magazines of live ammunitions were confiscated from Parad.
Parad is allegedly responsible in the alleged series of ransacking of a gold mining tunnel in Rosario town illegally reportedly operated by influential politicians and traders who were secretly protected by scalawag law enforcers and military officers in the past.
Some tunnels were allegedly operating even without permits and not paying taxes to the detriment of the government due to protection of some corrupt personnel and officials of concerned government agencies.
Parad is reportedly temporarily detained at the CIDG provincial office in Agusan del Sur until an RTC court will be informed of his arrest and due action will follow.
