- Roel Pareño -

ZAMBOANGA CITY , Philippines  – Police intelligence agents arrested last Monday a suspected Abu Sayyaf rebel tagged in the 2002 kidnapping of six Jehovah’s Witness members in Sulu, police said.

Director Angelo Sunglao, Region 9 police director, said George Nambi, alias Fawji Iraji, was picked up in Barangay Sta. Catalina but his arrest was only made public after his tactical interrogation.

Sunglao said Nambi had a standing arrest warrant for his alleged participation in the kidnapping of the six Jehovah’s Witness members, two of whom, both males, were beheaded in Patikul, Sulu on Aug. 20, 2002.

The victims were peddling cosmetic products when they were taken hostage.

The remaining four, all females, were rescued after weeks of military pursuit operation.
