ZAMBOANGA CITY , Philippines – A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck Cotabato and other parts of Mindanao Monday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Engineer Allan Labayog, Phivolcs’ monitoring officer, said the epicenter of the quake that struck at around 6:15 p.m. Monday was located 68 kilometers southwest of Cotabato City with a depth of 34 kilometers.
Labayog said the quake was felt as far as Indanan and Jolo towns in Sulu with an Intensity 1.
The temblor was felt at Intensity 5 in the cities of Cotabato and Pagadian in Zamboanga del Sur, and Intensity 4 in Isulan and Matutum towns in South Cotabato; and Pikit, Koronadal and Midsayap towns in North Cotabato.
Intensity 3 was registered in Zamboanga City; Matalam, North Cotabato; the cities of Cagayan de Oro, General Santos, Ozamis and Marawi; Matanar, Davao del Sur; and Kiamba, Sarangani, and Intensity 2 in Kidapawan and Makilala in North Cotabato; the cities of Dipolog, Davao, Isabela and Iligan; and Valencia, Bukidnon.
“So far we have not received any report of damage,” Labayog said.
