Laguna village chief gunned down
CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – A village chief was gunned down on his way to the city hall by two men riding in tandem in San Pablo City, Laguna, authorities said yesterday.
Killed on the spot was Cesar Reyes, 73, a town chief of Barangay Sta. Isabel, who sustained five gunshot wounds in the head and body.
Chief Superintendent Rolando Añonuevo, Calabarzon police director, said Reyes was on board his car and approaching the city hall at around 10 a.m. Monday when he was attacked by still unidentified armed men along Azucena street.
Bystanders tried to rush the victim to San Pablo City District hospital, but Reyes was declared dead on the spot. Police refused to divulge the motive in the killing of Reyes since the investigation is ongoing.
Añonuevo said his men arrested earlier two suspects riding in tandem identified as ex-rebel Reggie Serrano and Bryan Enriquez, along Barangay Balibago in Lian, Batangas on Tuesday.
