Sonny Osmeña quits Cebu City mayoral race

CEBU CITY , Philippines  – Even in politics, blood is thicker than water. This adage was again proven after former senator John “Sonny” Osmeña sacrificed his mayoral bid here to support his cousin Georgia Osmeña, who is also eyeing the same position.

“This is a historical event since never in the history of politics in Cebu had an Osmeña withdrawn in favor of another Osmeña,” Georgia said, as she hailed John’s move that will surely boost her candidacy.

The former senator said he decided to support his cousin because they share they both want to prevent Michael Rama from becoming this city’s next chief executive.
