ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has disqualified the son of former Zamboanga del Norte congressman Romeo Jalosjos in the gubernatorial race in Zamboanga Sibugay.
In a 15-page decision, the Comelec disqualified Romel Apolinario Jalosjos for lack of residency.
The case stemmed from a complaint filed by Dan Erasmo, chairman of Veterans’ Village in Ipil town, during the voters’ registration last year, as he claimed that the young Jalosjos was not a resident of the barangay.
Election lawyer Quirino Esguerra said the Comelec’s Second Division granted Erasmo’s petition for the cancellation of Jalosjos’ certificate of candidacy last Feb. 11 and removed his name from the list of candidates.
This prompted Jalosjos to appeal the case, but the Comelec denied his motion for reconsideration with finality.
Jalosjos or any of his representatives could not be reach for comment.
