Globe recognizes valor of 2nd Infantry Division's 'Jungle Fighters'

Camp Mateo Capinpin, Tanay, Rizal,  Philippines – As the nation celebrates the gallantry of our soldiers through our National Day of Valor (Araw ng Kagitingan), Globe is recognizing the Philippine Army’s valiant efforts in maintaining the country’s security, peace and development by awarding education grants to its service awardees.

Three soldiers from the 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division, Lieutenant Wilmar Jun Daraog, Corporal Chris Anthony Delica, and Cafgu Active Auxiliary (CAA) Eddie Yanson each received one-time educational grants worth P20,000 to support the education of their dependents. The awarding was held during the 2nd ID’s 34th founding anniversary on March 24.

During the awarding, CAA Yanson, was also given a special citation for being one of the Army’s Best CAA. Lightly built and standing just five feet tall, Yanson led a detachment of purely Cafgu units against a group of NPA rebels in Sitio Bangkal, Barangay San Juan, Bulalacao, Oriental Mindoro. Severely outnumbered, they were able to repel the attack and defend their position.

The regional educational grants program for Infantry Division service awardees is a nationwide project of Globe Bridging Communities, the corporate social responsibility arm of Globe, in partnership with the Philippine Army. Three service awardees, an officer, an enlisted personnel, and a Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) personnel are hand-picked by the Philippine Army to receive the Globe education grants based on the following criteria – display courage and valor in the line of duty, diligently observe and carry out responsibilities promptly and effectively and constantly exhibits community centeredness in the execution of his mandate. Since its launch in 2009, Globe Bridge Communities has awarded a total of 11 division-level service awardees.

The program is part of the CSR efforts of Globe geared towards putting up sustainable development projects in the various communities that it serves.
