-

BATANGAS, Philippines – A public market official in San Juan town was arrested for indiscriminately firing his handgun during a campaign rally there last Sunday night, police said.

Senior Superintendent Alberto Supapo, Batangas police director, said James Marquez, 59, public market administrator, was reportedly providing security in a campaign meeting of San Juan Mayor Danilo Mindanao in Barangay Palahanan 2nd when he allegedly fired his .45 caliber pistol in the air.

Police quoted Marquez, who was heavily drunk, as saying that he fired his gun as he was just elated that the mayor was in his barangay. – Arnell Ozaeta
