Dolphin with treated bullet wound found dead in Pangasinan

-

BINMALEY, Pangasinan, Philippines – A six-foot long spinner dolphin (Stenella longirostris) with a gunshot wound was found dead off Barangay Buenlag in this town.

Dr. Westly Rosario, executive director of the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute and center chief of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) here, said the bullet wound of the dolphin, which weighed about 50 kilograms and whose body was 10 inches wide, had stitches, showing that it had been treated but did not survive when it was returned to the sea.

It was buried at the Fish Cemetery at the BFAR center in Barangay Bonuan Binloc here. It is the 17th dolphin buried there. – Eva Visperas
