Red tide warning reiterated

- Sheila Crisostomo -

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Health (DOH) yesterday reiterated its warning against shellfish taken from areas contaminated with red tide toxins.

In a report, the DOH said that based on the latest laboratory results of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, four areas in the provinces are still affected by red tide poisoning.

These are Dumanquillas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur; Bislig Bay in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur; Murcielagos Bay in Zamboanga del Norte and Misamis Occidental; and Matarinao Bay in Eastern Samar.

Health Secretary Esperanza Cabral said harvesting – and selling – of all types of shellfish, including alamang, from these places is prohibited.
