Comelec upholds Cuerpo suspension

MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has affirmed the suspension order against Rodriguez, Rizal Mayor Pedro Cuerpo.

In a two-page resolution, the Comelec approved the recommendation of its law department to immediately implement Cuerpo’s suspension to ensure clean, honest and peaceful elections in Rodriguez town.

The poll body approved the recommendation of its law department in full.

Cuerpo cried political harassment, alleging that his suspension is part of Malacañang’s crackdown on Liberal Party members like him.

He said he will question the Comelec ruling before the Supreme Court next week. – Mayen Jaymalin, Edu Punay
