MANILA, Philippines - The Supreme Court (SC) has not granted immediate relief sought by ousted Bulacan Gov. Joselito Mendoza against the decision of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) unseating him of the gubernatorial post.
Instead, the SC directed the Comelec and former agrarian reform secretary Roberto “Obet” Pagdanganan, who was declared real winner in the May 2007 gubernatorial race, to comment on Mendoza’s petition seeking the issuance of a temporary restraining order.
SC administrator and spokesman Midas Marquez said the respondents were given five days to submit their comments.
The case will again be tackled in the SC’s next full session on Feb. 23.
