2 killed, 10 hurt in Lipa road mishap

BATANGAS , Philippines  – Two persons, including a five-year-old girl, were killed while 10 others were injured when the van they were riding in turned turtle several times along the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR) Tollway in Barangay Pusil, Lipa City last Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

Carlito America, security officer of the STAR Tollway, identified the fatalities as Bernardo Lopez, 49, who died on the spot; and Liechiel Padilla, five, who was pronounced dead on arrival at the Mary Mediatrix Hospital in Lipa City.

Injured were van driver Polito Ponla; Racquel Padilla, 40; Joeli Padilla, 42; Alexander Paz, 14; Mimi Lopez, 48; Jay-Vee Lopez, 15; Raychel Paz, Linda, 30; Michelle May, 11, and Mylene, five, all surnamed Ponla; and Lydia Jacinto, all residents of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro.
