Soldier slain, 10 hurt in ambush

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – A soldier was killed while 10 others were wounded when their convoy hit a landmine and they were subsequently ambushed by suspected Abu Sayyaf militants in Sumisip, Basilan yesterday, the military said.
Lt. Gen. Ben Dolorfino, chief of the Western Mindanao Command, said the soldiers, all belonging to Bravo Company of the Army’s 32nd Infantry Battalion, were cruising a dirt road between Barangays Libug and Cabcaban when they were attacked. – Roel Pareño
