DOH okays kidney transplant unit in Angeles City

ANGELES CITY , Philippines  – Kidney transplant has gone rural.

This, as the Department of Health (DOH) has issued a certificate of accreditation allowing the Angeles University Foundation Medical Center (AUFMC) here to operate a modern Kidney Transplant Unit (KTU), the only such facility north of Metro Manila.

In a statement yesterday, the AUFMC credited transplant surgeons Dr. Rosemarie Liquitte and Dr. Maricel Catunggal, two of the country’s most prominent nephrologists, for the KTU’s accreditation.

“Through this facility, patients are given the opportunity to drastically improve their quality of life and regain their full health. Transplantation eliminates the need for dialysis, thereby allowing patients to live with more freedom, energy and productivity,” said AUFMC president and chief executive officer Gabriel Martin Angeles.

AUFMC said, “Aside from providing the highest quality organ transplant services in the region, AUFMC actively advocates organ donation through a donor referral system where all hospitals in the region cooperate to boost the accessibility of organ donation.”

The AUFMC was awarded last year as the Best Private Tertiary Hospital in Central Luzon by the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. It will commemorate its 20th founding anniversary this February.         – Ding Cervantes
