DAVAO CITY , Philippines – An OV10 bomber aircraft of the Philippine Air Force crash-landed yesterday morning into the main runway of the Davao International Airport after it developed engine trouble following a routine maintenance flight.
PAF Tactical Operations Group (TOG) XI chief Lt. Col. Rozzano Briguez said the OV10 aircraft No. 647 was on its way back to base when its left main landing gear and nose gear collapsed.
“The aircraft swerved to the right when it crash-landed,” Briguez said.
Briguez said Capt. Jonathan Ybañez, the OV10’s pilot, was safe and has not suffered any injuries as a result of the crash landing.
It reportedly took one hour for the PAF personnel to retrieve the aircraft from the runway and bring it back to the TOG base.
The incident reportedly caused the delay of at least one flight coming into Davao City airport at around 10:30 a.m. yesterday.
“Right now, the aircraft is at the PAF ramp already and had to be fixed further,” Briguez added.
Sabotage was, however, ruled out to have caused the crash landing. – Edith Regalado
