LAGUNA , Philippines – Actor-politician Dan Fernandez will be reinstated as first district representative of this province, with the Supreme Court overruling the previous House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal’s (HRET) decision to unseat him, residents claimed.
In a recent Christmas party he hosted for Santa Rosa and Biñan barangay officials, Fernandez reportedly announced that the Supreme Court will support his appeal against the previous HRET decision - and this, he asserted, he got with the help allegedly of the administration.
It will be recalled that Fernandez was unseated after failing to fulfill the residency requirement of two years prior to filing his certificate of candidacy (COC) during the 2007 elections.
With this, the reinstatement of Fernandez is apparently just one of the strategies of Malacañang since Uliran Joaquin, the closest and only rival of Fernandez for Laguna’s first district congressional post, is now facing perjury charges from Comelec.
